Product Overview
Crystal Cryogenic Freezer Boxes are designed for the organized storage of biological samples at ultra-low temperatures, including:
- Laboratory Ultra-low temperature freezers, freezers, and refrigerators,
- Cryogenic storage systems (vapor phase liquid nitrogen)
They provide a structured, space-efficient solution for storing vials, tubes, and cryogenic samples while maintaining sample integrity.
- Plastic boxes: Reusable, durable, and designed for long-term use
- Fiberboard boxes: Typically, limited reuse, especially in humid or frost-prone environments
Crystal Cryogenic Freezer Boxes are designed for vapor phase liquid nitrogen storage.
For liquid phase immersion, compatibility depends on the box material:
- Cryo-rated plastic boxes may be suitable, especially Polycarbonate Boxes
- Fiberboard (cardboard) boxes are not recommended

Matching box height and grid size to your vial dimensions is critical for proper fit and usability.
Simply order the box size and grid needed, ie. For 2” Water Repellant White Cardboard Box with Cell Divider: SB2CC-XX, replacing XX with 16,25,36,49,64,81 or 100.
Temperature Compatibility
Crystal Cryogenic Freezer Boxes are suitable for:
- Ultra-low freezers (–80 °C), Freezers, and Refrigerators
- Cryogenic storage (vapor phase liquid nitrogen, depending on model)
Important: Material selection determines performance at extreme temperatures. Always confirm compatibility for liquid nitrogen applications. Always verify specifications before use in liquid phase LN₂.

Crystal Cryogenic Freezer Boxes are available in
Polycarbonate (for temperatures -196ºC- to 121ºC)/Polypropylene (Plastic for temperatures to -80ºC):

- With Clear Lids and Locator Grids to facilitate sample identification
- Boxes feature drain holes for venting and safety, keyed lid to prevent lid misalignment
Waterproof Hinged Fiberboard (Cardboard):
- Waterproof for longer life when repeatedly thawed and frozen
- Hinged lid to reduce chance of lid misplacement
- With -81 Cell Divider inserted
- 3 Colors available for great organization
Coated Fiberboard (Cardboard) Water Pellant:
- Cost-effective storage solution
- Suitable for –80 °C to +4ºC environments
- Ideal for short- to medium-term storage
- Supplied with and without Grid (Cell Dividers)

Crystal Cryogenic Freezer Boxes support a wide range of tube sizes, including:
- 0.5 mL to 2.0 mL cryovials
- Larger tubes up to 50 mL (depending on box height and grid format)
Common configurations include:
- 25-place (5 × 5)
- 81-place (9 × 9)
- 100-place (10 × 10)
- Others, 16-place (4 x 4), 36-place (6 x 6), 49-place (7 x 7), 64-place (8x8), 96-place (8x12)

Plastic boxes are not only more durable than cardboard boxes, but they are also less prone to damage than cardboard boxes when sample boxes are repeatedly frozen and thawed. They also may feature a lip closure that holds the lid to the bottom of the box making spilling less likely if the box is dropped.
